Experience
u
I volunteered in a Roman Catholic school from November 2013 to July 2014. Here I was able to gain experience with both key stages, with later focus in Key Stage 2. During my time here I was responsible for carrying out one-on-one reading sessions with children from Key Stage 2 and working within the class with small groups of children, particularly those of low ability. I was also able to experience the ability of inclusion within the school as they accept children with a variety of additional needs and I was able to witness how they incorporate their needs into their daily lesson planning and school activites, such as the introduction of sign language.
I volunteer as a Rainbow leader on a weekly basis helping out the running of the Rainbow group, consisting of approximately 30 children aged 5 to 7 years. During their time at Rainbows we carry out art and craft sessions and outdoor sports, throughout promoting the need for teamwork and fairness for all.
During the SUmmer of 2010 I volunteered at a locally run organisation which offers holiday care for chidlren within Lancashire. During my time here I was responsible, at all times, for 6 children aged 5 to 7 years. The scheme provided the children with activites on site during the day and also activites away from site, increasing my resposibility for their welfare and safety whilst on these trips. These trips also allowed me to see the need for hands on expereince for children to learn concepts they previously had little knowledge of.
