Programming

During my time in my GPP School I carried out a Geography lesson in which pupils had to carry out an activity on making a map in order for Dora the Explorer could be able to find her way to our school. Pupils were taught directional language such as forwards, backwards, behind, near, left and right and used these when creating their maps as a group. Pupils had to use the pictures, taken on our walk around Atherton, in order to help sequence the places and stick them/ draw them on the corrext parts of the map.

This lesson would have been an ideal opportunity to bring coding and programming into the classroom through the use of floor robots. As the children were beginning to understand the directional language they could have used this language to talk to their parnter/group and direct their floor robots to certain places within the classroom.

BeeBots are a widely used resource in schools in order to implement programming and coding within other core lessons such as Maths and Geograhpy. As you can see from the image above the BeeBot has arrows on the top which the pupil can press in order to programme a desired route the BeeBot has to take. These not only embed programming skills into pupils but help embed on the lessons being taught be that Maths or Geography.

This are a great resource that are simple for all ages to be able to use and use efficently and effectively to embed their learning. I hope that I get the opportunity in my next placement to be able to see these and use this resource within my lesson to help embed and integrate Computing into a variety of taught lessons.
